In a brief interview on the streets of Tokyo, Japan, the artist formerly known as Kanye West participated in a fit check and gave a strange answer when asked about the fashion trend he most regrets participating in.
In a clip shared by Mystery Fashionist, Ye was asked to break down his outfit and give it a rating out of ten. “Oh, it’s always a ten out of ten,” he replied. “I got the original, Yeezy 950 boots on. You know, Gosha did the pop-up today, so the rest of it’s all Gosha.” He was then asked what fashion trend he regrets participating in and dryly replied after a brief pause: “Life.”
Ye made another surprise appearance in Japan earlier this month when his frequent collaborator Travis Scott brought him out during a show at Tokorozawa’s Belluna Dome. As seen in clips from the show, he pulled up in a mask and dramatically revealed himself before performing tracks including “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and “Through the Wire.”
There’s been a flurry of activity from Ye once again as of late. At the start of the month, he sat down with Rabbi Yoshiayo Yosef Pinto to “take accountability” for his hateful rhetoric against the Jewish community. The multi-hyphenate received a lot of criticism for his remarks over the past few years, especially when he was interviewed by Alex Jones in 2022 and said that he loved Adolf Hitler.
Earlier this month, officials in São Paulo announced that Ye, who has released a song titled “Heil Hitler,” could face arrest if he makes sympathetic statements about Nazism during or surrounding his upcoming show there. The show is scheduled for Nov. 29, but a location hasn’t been announced yet.
Ye hasn’t released a solo album since Donda 2, although he released a pair of collaborative albums with Ty Dolla Sign last year. His next studio album, tentatively titled Bully, is expected to arrive before the end of the year.
