Gucci Mane’s wife Keyshia Ka’oir really didn’t want him to face off against his former rival Jeezy for their Verzuz battle in late 2020.
In a new interview with The Breakfast Club, Guwop and the mother of two of his children sat down for a chat discussing everything from mental health to their relationship. At around the 19:40 point of the interview, as seen above, Ka’oir was asked how she felt about the Verzuz when he first told her about the plans.
“I told him not to,” she said. “I said, ‘You’re not doing that… I will pay you a million dollars not to do this.”
Gucci corroborated what she said.
“She told me that,” he added. “I swear to God. She like, ‘I’ll pay you a million dollars not to do the Verzuz.’ I’m like, ‘I’m gonna do the Verzuz.”
The Verzuz battle had a tense atmosphere, especially when Gucci played his 2012 track “Truth,” which many thought contained a dig at Jeezy’s late associate Pookie Loc with its lyrics, "Go dig your partner up, n***a, bet he can’t say shit."
For context, Gucci shot at Pookie Loc during a confrontation in 2005, and the Jeezy associate's body was later found buried near a middle school in Decatur, Georgia. Murder charges against Gucci were ultimately dropped.
“I seen an interview where Jeezy was saying, like, ‘If I do a Verzuz, I want to do it with Gucci,’” said Gucci, noting that he was skeptical when he first approached to do it. “I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want to do no Verzuz.’ … When they finally broke it down to me, the business about it, all this good can come out of it... I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m going to do it.’”
Ka’oir said she wasn’t concerned about Gucci doing the Verzuz due to a potential mental health episode, but because she didn’t want to see things “pop off” between the former rivals.
“I was pregnant at home, he didn’t want me there,” she added. “I’m in the bed, watching it like everybody else, scared.”
Gucci added that he really respects Jeezy for how he handled everything.
The Atlanta rapper also said that they had an awkward encounter with Jeezy before the Verzuz even started. Gucci recounted how he saw Jeezy on a plane, sitting in his seat.
“He’s sitting in my seat, right? So, I’m like, ‘Damn, I don’t even want to talk to him, but I got to tell this dude to get out of my seat,’” he said. “I’m like, ‘Hey man, you in my seat. You got to get out of my seat.’ But he see who it is. He like, ‘Well, I’m sitting in the same seat, can you sit in mine?’ I’m like, ‘No, I can’t sit in your seat. You just got to get up.’ … Oh, he got up and moved.”
