After the artist formerly known as Kanye West said he wanted to “take accountability” for his antisemitism in recent years, his frequent collaborator Nicki Minaj has praised him.

In a post shared on X, formerly Twitter, Nicki responded to a video that showed Ye sitting down with Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto to apologize for his hateful rhetoric against the Jewish community.

“So happy to see Kanye publicly take accountability for the pain his words may have caused to many,” Nicki responded to the video. “Standing with our Jewish brothers & sisters.”

In the conversation, Ye said that he felt “blessed” to be able to “take accountability” for his actions.

“I was dealing with some various issues, dealing with bipolar also,” Ye said in the video, which stems from a conversation held earlier this week. “So it would take the ideas I had and have me take them to the extreme where I would forget about the protection of the people around me and/or myself.”

He also detailed his struggles with bipolar disorder during the chat and explained that he felt the need to be honest amid a lack of public knowledge on it.

“It’s a big deal for me as a man to come and take accountability for all the things that I’ve said, and I really just appreciate you embracing me with open arms and allowing me to make amends,” he continued. “This is the beginning and the first steps and the first brick-by-brick to build back the strong walls.”

Recently, Yung Lean sat down for an interview on the New York Times Popcast with journalists Jon Caramanica and Joe Coscarelli, and explained that he distanced himself from Ye due to his struggles with bipolar disorder, something he also has experience with.

“Kanye is mentally ill,” Lean said. “I’ve been there and I feel for him, and I think all this stuff that he says about Jewish people—my grandfather was Jewish… I don’t know, I can’t defend him, but it’s a mentally ill person who still did ‘Flashing Lights.’ … I haven’t seen him for a long time now, ‘cause it’s too much. I can’t really be around it.”
