For more than two decades, KEM has carved out a space as one of modern R&B’s most consistent voices, blending soul, jazz, and grown-man romance into a catalog that has aged alongside its audience.
Born Kim Lamont Owens, the Nashville native rose from Detroit’s music scene after financing his debut album Kemistry on his own, a gamble that eventually led to a Motown deal and platinum success. Songs like “Love Calls,” “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” and “Nobody” helped cement his reputation as one of the most distinctive voices in the genre.
Now, that legacy is expanding beyond music.
The Love Always Wins artist is expecting his eighth child, welcoming another baby with his wife, Erica Owens, the couple shared exclusively with People. The new arrival will be their fifth child together. Both KEM and Owens also have children from previous relationships.
KEM, who married Owens in 2019, told People that fatherhood remains central to his life, no matter where his career takes him. “Being a husband and a father continues to be the greatest blessing of my life,” he said.
Owens also opened up about what motherhood has meant to her over the years, describing it as a deeply grounding experience. “Motherhood has been such a meaningful journey for me, and I’m grateful,” she shared.
While KEM’s music has long focused on themes of love, commitment, and emotional accountability, those values appear to carry over into his personal life as well.
Speaking about the next phase of their journey, the singer said he and his wife are approaching the pregnancy with gratitude and excitement. “Erica and I are looking forward to welcoming another little miracle into our growing family,” he told the outlet.
Owens echoed his sentiment, emphasizing the sense of unity already surrounding the baby. “My husband and I are excited for this next chapter,” she said. “Our family is already full of love for this little blessing.”
