Max Ehrich, the actor and singer who was once engaged to Demi Lovato, is opening up about his recent struggles, saying he’s thankful just to be here after what he describes as a harrowing series of events.
In a statement shared exclusively through his collaborators, Desi Child and Patheja Entertainment, Ehrich reflected on what he’s endured.
“This recent experience was one that I don’t have many words for,” he said exclusively. “I would like to say thank you to all who have prayed for my safety, and I am so lucky and grateful to be alive after being kidnapped and drugged. I feel in my heart I want to spread love through music, for that is the only thing that got me through jail and now rehab. I sang for hours on end. People’s spirits lifted, and I hope this does the same for others.”
According to a report from TMZ, the 33-year-old was arrested earlier this week in Florida after an altercation with his mother turned physical. Police say the incident happened while he was under the influence of nitrous oxide, a substance he admitted to huffing in the days before his arrest.
Authorities confirmed he was booked on a domestic violence charge and later placed under a psychiatric hold under Florida’s Baker Act.
Ehrich’s statement acknowledged how these events have shifted his perspective, pointing to his music as both an outlet and a lifeline.
“Learning 2 Love is such a near and dear song to my soul,” he explained, referencing a track written in Nashville. “It is about letting your guard down and being vulnerable. I was always afraid to be vulnerable like this, but after these recent events, I would like to express myself through music and my journey. I wrote this with my friends in Nashville with the purest of people. Love you all. God bless.”
TMZ reported that Ehrich told them he had been in Los Angeles days before his arrest when three gang members allegedly kidnapped him.
He claimed those individuals introduced him to nitrous, which he continued abusing for nearly a week before traveling to Florida to stay with his parents. His mother attempted to intervene and convince him to stop using the inhalant, but the confrontation escalated into violence.
The police report stated that during the altercation, Ehrich allegedly chased his mother into a neighbor’s yard, pushed her to the ground, and kicked her in the thigh.
While she did not suffer serious injuries, officers noted that she told them her son “heavily abuses inhalants” and had consumed nitrous immediately before the fight. Ehrich was reportedly still huffing while streaming live on social media and even as he spoke to police at the scene.
Now, Ehrich says his focus is on recovery and rebuilding. He told TMZ that he plans to remain in treatment for at least 30 days once his psychiatric hold concludes.
He also said that "Learning 2 Love" will be available on all platforms later tonight, October 10, and shared the exclusive cover art.
