Max Ehrich’s name has been back in the headlines for reasons that stretch far beyond his music. The 34-year-old actor and singer, once engaged to Demi Lovato, was arrested in Florida before being released on bond.
On October 8, Ehrich was booked at St. Lucie County Jail on a charge of battery against a person over the age of 65. He was released later that same day after posting $1,000 bond and was also placed under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows temporary involuntary psychiatric evaluation.
And according to Life & Style, days later, he told followers he was entering rehab, writing on Instagram, “I am so sorry you all had to watch me fall from grace. All thoughts and prayers are appreciated.”
He also alleged that he had been kidnapped and forced to ingest drugs, cautioning fans against sharing their locations online and warning about substances he described as dangerous.
Ehrich’s mother, Rhona, spoke out shortly after. She disputed reports suggesting her son had attacked her, calling them “completely fabricated.”
“A short video clip of an altercation that is being exaggerated for click bait does not discern the truth of what did and didn’t happen,” she explained. Rhona also referenced the alleged kidnapping, saying she watched “substance abuse take over his entire daily life because he was kidnapped and forced to do drugs with a group of bad characters.” She added that her son is now receiving treatment: “A mother knows who their son is and isn’t.”
Alongside those revelations, Ehrich introduced his latest single, “Prisoner,” describing it as a reflection of self-discovery. “As I continue to grow internally and externally in rehab; I am eternally grateful to share my new song ‘PRISONER,’” he wrote. “I have had a life under a microscope and been praised, but then judged countless times. I am not a prisoner of society, false narratives, false headlines, but most importantly my own limiting beliefs.”
For Ehrich, the single marks what he calls “just the beginning.”
