Mariah Carey and Eminem’s beef is really standing the test of time.
During a recent conversation on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Carey played the game, "Plead the Fifth," where the host asked her about her feud with Em. She Earlier this summer, music producer Damion “Damizza” Young alleged on the TFU podcast that the two artists began beefing when Em asked Carey to portray his mother in the 2002 film, 8 Mile.
“From what I heard, there is truth to that,” Carey told Cohen. “But I don’t think that he actually… well, who knows who approached who.”
When Cohen asked, “But did that ignite the beef?” Carey was vague. “Um, no. I mean, maybe. It depends what he’s thinking. I really don’t care. Like, whatever he’s said, then I’m that, fine. Not really. But that’s a rap lyric.”
Young told the podcast that Eminem wanted Carey to play his mother in the movie, even though he was only four years younger than her. The iconic singer rejected the offer, and the role ultimately went to Kim Basinger.
“Her insecurities kicked in big time,” Young said, suggesting that Eminem and Mariah later became romantically involved.
Eminem has made the same claim about a romance, especially on The Eminem Show album cuts, “When the Music Stops” and “Superman” from 2002.
Carey has regularly dismissed the rumors, telling Larry King that same year that they “probably” hung out a “total of four times. And I don’t consider that dating somebody.” Later, in 2009, she even shaded the Detroit rapper in the music video for her 2009 song, “Obsessed,” where she pretends to be a male stalker.
