The first of five suspects in the 2024 murder of rapper Julio Foolio to be tried was found guilty of manslaughter — rather than first-degree murder — after an eight-day trial and only a few hours of deliberation.
On Friday (Oct. 31), Alicia Andrews was found guilty of manslaughter, a lesser included offense, rather than first-degree murder, which she was also charged with. She was found not guilty on conspiracy to commit murder.
The jury began deliberating at 6:50 p.m. They continued until a verdict was reached at 10:20 p.m., passing up an offer by the judge to go home and resume next week.
Andrews was accused of trailing Julio Foolio to multiple locations on the day of his murder, alongside her codefendants, before they killed him.
She attempted to use evidence of domestic violence against her by her boyfriend, co-defendant Isiah Chance, in her defense. However, the judge ruled against her, barring the effort.
The remaining defendants — Chance, Sean Gathright, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy — are expected to go on trial sometime next spring.
Julio Foolio was killed while celebrating his 26th birthday at an Airbnb.
He gained national attention over his public feud with Yungeen Ace in 2021, a battle that saw the release of diss tracks such as “Beatbox Remix” and “When I See You.”
Authorities tie Foolio's murder to a war between multiple gangs. They say that 6 Block, which Foolio allegedly belonged to, was fighting against two allied gangs, Ace's Top Killers (ATK) and 1200. Every defendant except Andrews is alleged to be a member of one of those two gangs.
Andrews is scheduled to be sentenced on December 8 at 8:30 a.m.
