Eddie Murphy has never shied away from bragging about his kids, but his admiration for his eldest daughter, Bria, has always carried a special tone.
Speaking about her art career back in 2020, Murphy told reporters he was thrilled the public finally had the chance to see what he’d long known. “I’m glad that people get to see how talented she is,” he said at the time, calling her a “good kid” and adding, “I really got lucky with my kids. There really isn’t a bad one in the bunch.”
That proud-dad energy was back on display this week—and according to People, it was for a very different milestone.
Bria, 35, is expecting her first child with her husband, actor Michael Xavier. The announcement became public when she stepped onto the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of Being Eddie, her father’s new documentary, on Wednesday, November 12.
This will be the third grandchild for Eddie Murphy, who is already a grandfather to his son Myles’ daughters, Evie and Zuri Liv.
Bria, whom Murphy shares with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell, married Xavier in July 2022 during a Beverly Hills ceremony attended by 250 family and friends. Eddie walked her down the aisle, standing alongside Nicole as their daughter exchanged vows. Before the ceremony, Bria marked the engagement on Instagram with captions like, “My heart, my best friend, my forever. I love you, always,” while Xavier posted his own message: “Forever my love.”
The pregnancy news adds another chapter to the Murphy family’s expanding tree. Eddie is father to 10 children across several generations and relationships.
His eldest, Eric, 36, is from his relationship with Paulette McNeely. Christian, 34, is from his relationship with Tamara Hood. With Nicole Mitchell, he shares Bria, Shayne (31), Zola (25), Bella (23), and Myles (33). His daughter Angel, 18, is with Melanie Brown. With his current partner, Paige Butcher, he shares Izzy, 9, and Max, 6.
