Taraji P. Henson is stepping into Tyler Perry’s world once again, joining the ensemble cast of Why Did I Get Married Again?, the latest entry in Perry’s successful film series.
According to Variety, the Netflix third installment brings together both new and familiar faces for a story about love, family, and second chances.
Henson is no stranger to Perry’s projects. She has already starred in I Can Do Bad All By Myself, The Family That Preys, Acrimony, and, most recently, Straw, which hit Netflix earlier this year. Her return marks the fifth collaboration between the Oscar-nominated actress and the filmmaker.
Alongside Henson, longtime fans of the franchise will see the original cast reunite. Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Michael Jai White, Lamman Rucker, and Jill Scott are all back, reprising the roles that audiences first met in 2007’s Why Did I Get Married? and its 2010 sequel, Why Did I Get Married Too?
Perry himself is also on board, once again writing, producing, directing, and acting in the film.
The story picks up with the longtime friends and couples coming back together for another reunion, this time centered around Marcus (Michael Jai White) and Angela’s (Tasha Smith) daughter’s wedding preparations.
The logline teases that while years have passed, old dynamics quickly resurface. As the parents watch their children mirror their own choices and mistakes, they’re forced to confront that timeless question: why did they get married… again?
Adding fresh energy to the returning cast are Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’Vinchi, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush. Together, the mix of legacy actors and new names creates a generational bridge that reflects the film’s central theme.
The movie is currently in production in Italy as part of Perry’s ongoing creative partnership with Netflix, which has already delivered titles like Madea’s Destination Wedding, Straw, and the recent Ruth & Boaz.
