Homecoming season hits different at an HBCU. It’s more than just a week of parties, step shows, and tailgates; it’s a celebration of culture, confidence, and community. Walmart tapped two creators who embody that energy, Joirdyn Smith of Clark Atlanta University and Jarek Peterson of Jackson State University, to show how style plays a role in repping your school and your story.
Both creators built their looks with pieces straight from Walmart, proving that you don’t have to sacrifice style to stay on budget. From everyday staples to statement fits, they each put their own spin on what homecoming-ready really looks like.
For Joirdyn, basketball may have brought her to Clark Atlanta, but the HBCU experience gave her something bigger: a place where she feels seen. “Growing up, I didn’t always see girls who looked like me,” she says. “Clark Atlanta felt like home right away.” With a major in Business Marketing, she brings that same drive and creativity to her personal style, mixing classic silhouettes with modern streetwear energy.
Jarek’s style story starts in Jackson, Mississippi, where his love for community led him to Jackson State. “From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I was welcomed with open arms,” he says. His looks balance comfort and confidence, reflecting the warmth of his campus and his mission to inspire other young Black men through content creation.
Walmart is allowing students like Joirdyn and Jarek to express themselves and celebrate the legacy of HBCUs through fashion. Whether it’s a crisp button-up for the game or a fit that stands out at the step show, Walmart has everything you need to make you stand out and look fresh for your homecoming.
