Although Fyre Festival 2’s tickets have gone on sale for the event that’s supposed to take place on Isla Mujeres in Mexico (near Cancún), the island’s local government says that the event “does not exist.” Despite this, Antonio Brown has indicated that he'll be performing at the festival.
"Ayo, this AB and I'll be performing at Fyre Fest Part 2 in Mexico, May 30th," Brown said in a video, as reported by TMZ. "Be there or be square and make sure you put that shit on." The official website for the festival, which seems awfully dubious considering how the last Fyre Fest went, does not feature a list of artists expected to perform. However, sources told TMZ that other artists in addition to Brown have accepted deals to perform.
The sequel to 2017’s disastrous sham of a festival started selling tickets to the event last week, but Edgar Gasca, the tourism directorate of Isla Mujeres, revealed to the Guardian that the island’s officials aren’t aware of the event that’s set to take place from May 30 through June 2.
“We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it,” said Edgar. “For us, this is an event that does not exist.”
Gasca also claimed that he spoke with the minister for tourism in the state of Quintana Roo, plus the hotels that the festival has listed as accommodation for its guests on its website, and neither of them had any knowledge of the festival.
“The organisers didn’t even bother to approach the authorities,” said Gasca. “It’s very strange, because any manager knows that if you’re going to hold an event, let alone a massive event, you need municipal authorisation.
“I think they thought they would just announce it and see if it got traction, then ask for the permits halfway down the path,” Gasca continued. “It’s a bit of a naive way to think.”
Municipal president Atenea Gómez Ricalde also revealed that she only knew what was posted online about the festival. “People are trying to use the peace and tranquillity we have created here for their benefit,” she said.
In response to these claims by Isla Mujeres officials, Fyre Festival 2’s organizers released a statement claiming that the planned festival does exist.
After the failure of Fyre Festival, founder Billy McFarland was convicted of fraud and sentenced to six years (but he served less than four).
“We’re producing a highly exclusive, boutique and sustainable experience for Fyre Festival 2, set for May 30 - June 2, 2025,” said the event’s producers, Lostnights. “Fyre Festival 2 has secured top-tier private venues and hotels in partnership with our local allies who have established communications with the corresponding authorities to ensure full compliance and flawless execution.”
“As a group, we have established contact with the municipal and state authorities to establish the certainty of a healthy event, and thus, obtained the respective official announces [sic] and collaborations that guarantee total compliance, support the local community, and offer responsibly a boutique event that raises the prestige and long-term value of the destination,” said another company involved in the festival, UNIK Travel.
Back in September, McFarland told NBC News that the second Fyre festival was going to take place on Apr. 25. Tickets for the event would range from $1,400 to $1.1 million.
“Fyre Festival 2 is happening April 25, 2025, so we’re seven and a half months away,” said McFarland. “We have a private island off the coast of Mexico in the Caribbean, and we have an incredible production company who’s handling everything from soup to nuts.”
