Ciara has come to the defense of her husband Russell Wilson who often finds himself the subject of criticism over his perceived corniness.
In an interview with The Breakfast Club shared on Friday (August 22), CiCi shared her thoughts on those who call out Wilson for not meeting their expectation of cool.
“I don't even have to reply to that because why would I have to respond to that?” she asked around the 22-minute mark in the video below. "I know what I know. He’s the most amazing human being I know — the smartest, most intelligent Black man that I have ever known."
Additionally, Ciara singled out a "man" who’s been calling him names — and then questioned how he’s treated his partners. "Have you ever loved right?" she asked. "People speak out of pocket because they don’t know him. For me, it’s like, instead of being mad about it, it’s like, God, bless him."
A lot of people on social media have called out Wilson for one reason or another — but it usually stems from how openly loving and supportive he is of his wife. One celebrity who’s made it clear how he feels about Wilson is Future, who is Ciara’s ex-fiancée with whom she shares a son.
On Quavo’s 2023 track "Turn Yo Clic Up," Future calls out Wilson in the opening of his verse. "I ball in his mall for my brothers/Goyard bag, tote the Corduory/I got it out the field, fuck Russell," Future raps.
In 2019, Future fired a more direct shot at Wilson during an interview with Beats 1 in which he claimed Ciara introduced his son to the NFL player before the rapper agreed to it.
"He do exactly what she tell him to do," Future said, before suggesting that Wilson be a "man" to make sure Ciara never mentions his name in public.
"He not being a man in that position," Future added. "He not tellin' her, 'Chill out with that on the internet. Don't even talk to him. I'm your husband! You better not even bring Future's name up!' If that was me, she couldn't even bring his name up. She know that. She couldn't even bring her exes' names up. I don't [care] what they gave you. ... Don't give that shit no energy."
Ciara responded soon after by dismissing Future with a picture of herself captioned, "Rise above." Wilson posted a picture of Ciara and Future’s son playing with his daughter. "All that matters," he said alongside the post.
