Jaylen Brown's father, Marselles Brown, has been arrested on an attempted murder charge for allegedly stabbing a youth football coach following an argument about parking.

As reported by TMZ, the NBA star's 57-year-old father, who was formerly a boxer, was arrested following the incident on Wednesday (Aug. 20). According to the Las Vegas Metro Police, Marselles Brown allegedly got into an argument with the man at All American Park that led to Brown stabbing him.

The coach involved in the dispute, who TMZ identified as Cross Tupuola, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Authorities said that Brown fled the scene of the alleged stabbing but was arrested later that day. He's scheduled to make his first court appearance on Thursday (Aug. 21).

"Under the above event number and time, LVMPD responded to a stabbing in the 1500 block of South Buffalo Drive," the LVMPD office of public information said in a statement shared with Complex. "Officers arrived and located a male suffering from several stab wounds. The male was transported to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition. The suspect was stopped a short distance away from the scene and detained. Through the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as 57-year-old Quenton Marcelles Brown. Brown was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for attempt murder."

Brown's attorney, Arnold Weinstock, said that he was acting in self-defense. The attorney said Tupuola had pistol-whipped Brown before the alleged stabbing.

"Everything I know," Weinstock said, "and I've known Mr. Brown for quite some time, I do not believe that he initiated anything, and he is telling me that everything that occurred was him trying to defend himself after he was struck."

According to sources close to the situation, Jaylen Brown doesn't have a particularly close relationship with his father. He has not commented on the incident.

Marselles Brown previously came out of boxing retirement in 2016, and he said that he was inspired to do so because of his two children, Jaylen and Quenton Brown.

"My main motivation for coming out of retirement was to show my kids that I never gave up on my dreams," he told boxing247 in 2016. "I didn’t want them to give up on theirs. I am extremely proud of both my sons. I am especially proud of Jaylen. He is an extraordinary athlete and very smart."
