The sex toy hysteria that first came to light in the WNBA has now entered the NFL.
On Friday (August 22), the Minnesota Vikings faced off against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, resulting in a 23-13 win for the home team.
However, five minutes before the end of the game, a green dildo was spotted on the field and was removed by a staff member as the Titans Cheerleaders performed a routine. According to ESPN, the incident was reported to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
The incident is one of numerous that have impacted the sports world as of late, with multiple sex toys being thrown on the court during WNBA games over the summer.
A similar green dildo was tossed at a Dallas Wings game against the New York Liberty on August 5, with Dayton, Ohio, man Charles Burgess, 32, later being arrested and charged after a 12-year-old girl was hit in the right leg by the object.
Another man, 18-year-old Kaden Lopez was arrested after a green dildo was launched on the court of a Phoenix Mercury and Connecticut Sun game, which was held on the same date as the Wings vs. Liberty.
A mystery cryptocurrency aficionado, who goes by "Lt. Daldo Raine," has since claimed that the incidents are part of a coordinated scheme to promote a coin his group created. The group's sex toy tossing allegedly dates back to the July 29 the Atlanta Dream–Golden State Valkyries game, one day after the coin began trading.
But many WNBA players have been outspoken against the sex toy gag, like Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, who demanded that the throwing stops so the athletes can be "taken seriously."
"I just know that if things go viral now. ... If that thing even came from the rafters or bounced and slapped me in the face, that would be what I would be known for, for life," she said on the second episode of her Show Me Something podcast.
