Shannon Sharpe and Ochocinco React to RGIII's 'Unnecessary' Angel Reese Post: 'Read the Room'

The 'Nightcap' hosts believe that the post was intended to "punch up" against Reese.

Nightcap hosts Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco have entered the chat on Robert Griffin III's controversial tweet about Angel Reese.

On the Wednesday (July 16) episode of Nightcap, the former NFL players addressed Shaquille O'Neal threatening to punch RGIII in defense of Reese.

After weeks of alleging that Reese "hates" her WNBA competitor Caitlin Clark, last week, Griffin retweeted a Photoshopped image that depicted Reese as a monkey on the 2K26 cover.

Although RGIII slammed the racist image, many believe that he intentionally brought light to it.

"Me personally, I believe RGIII could have made his point without retweeting it," Sharpe told Ochocinco. "Obviously this is a racist [image]. It's unnecessary. It's uncalled for."

Ochocinco responded by telling Sharpe that Griffin "didn't even have to bring attention to it."

"Just scroll by it. I saw it, too. I scrolled right by it," he said. "There's no need to respond to it because when you respond to it, it brings to the light of day and it creates conversation all over again."

Sharpe suggested that because RGIII had been "outspoken" about the Chicago Sky star, he might have tried to "draw attention" to the picture. Ocho, however, thought that the retired football player meant well this time around.

"I think it just he went about it the wrong way," Ocho said. "He probably meant good based on the backlash he received on his previous comments ... Try to spin it and say something nice this time, but you've got to be able to read the room in certain situations."

Ocho added that the account with the initial racist post only had 100 followers, meaning that virtually no one saw the image when it was originally posted.

"People want to punch up," Sharpe said. "So if that's the case, they want you to lend them your audience's ear."

"Once you press send it takes on a world of its own," Ocho interjected.

Ocho ended with recounting a fight between him and O'Neal years ago, which was timely since the former NBA player currently wants smoke with RGIII.

"Tweet another monkey post about my girl Angel Reese and I’m gonna punch you in your fucking face," O'Neal said about RGIII on Tuesday's episode of podcast Off the Record.

"It’s enough. I don’t usually do stuff like this, but just stop it, bro," Shaq continued. "You got your job, you got your podcast. Leave my Angel Reese alone. I’m the one calling her and telling her not to respond. Fucking stop it. That’s the last time, OK? Thank you."
