On Instagram, Mark Sanchez, a former high-ranking draft pick for the New York Jets, describes himself as a husband, father, NFL broadcaster, and analyst.
The Fox NFL analyst's wife is Shameless actress Perry Mattfeld.
Sanchez was injured in Indiana in the early morning hours of October 4, 2025, and is in stable condition, Fox Sports has confirmed in a statement. TMZ first reported that Sanchez was allegedly "stabbed" and initially suffered critical injuries. However, police now say that Sanchez is the person under arrest in the incident.
According to the New York Post, Sanchez married Mattfeld in Mexico in 2023. The news site described the Shameless actress as his "longtime love" and said they had a one-year engagement.
In 2023, People wrote that Sanchez had married Mattfeld at "a historic 16th-century colonial monastery on May 28 in Oaxaca, Mexico."
On September 30, she told Glamour: We actually met when I was doing Shameless. We were filming in Chicago, and he was playing with the Bears at the time, so he was living in Chicago. But we both went to USC, both actually born at the same hospital, both Hispanic, a lot of weird things. He fell in love with me immediately."
She added: "I’m just kidding. He didn’t, but we dated for a while even though we were always kind of apart because I was filming In the Dark in Toronto for four years, and he was still playing. It only took six years to get engaged. And then we’ve been married for about two years and had twins in March."
"It was really emotional and special for us," Mattfeld told People, adding that Sanchez's son Daniel was a groomsman.
"He got a standing ovation as he brought our rings down the aisle, and then took his place next to Mark during the ceremony," Mattfeld told People. "It was so special to be able to read our vows with him beside us."
In February, Mattfeld posted a photo showing her pregnancy on Instagram. She has also shared a wedding photo on social media.
Sanchez added to the magazine: “Emotional is a massive understatement. It all hit me at once like a mack truck and after that, I couldn’t turn off the tears! Tears of joy, love and gratitude for getting such an incredible life partner.”
Police confirmed that they arrested Sanchez.
“After further investigation and following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD arrested 38-year-old Mark Sanchez for his alleged role in this incident,” Indianapolis police wrote.
“Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all of which are misdemeanors. All involved parties have been identified and no further individuals are being sought by detectives."
The statement adds: "Sanchez is still in the hospital and has not been booked into the Adult Detention Center. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision. An arrest is merely an accusation, and Sanchez should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”
Indianapolis police earlier wrote in a statement on the October 4 incident that they are “investigating a physical disturbance that happened near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street on October 4, 2025. The incident involved two adult males, resulting in one man receiving lacerations and the other sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds. Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence.”
Although the statement does not name Sanchez, police sent Complex the statement after being asked for comment on the Sanchez incident.
Both of the men were identified, police wrote. "Aggravated Assault detectives are continuing the investigation and have reviewed video footage of the incident. Both men received medical treatment. The man with the apparent stab wounds remains hospitalized in stable condition. The case will be presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision.”
“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition," Fox Sports said in a statement. "We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
According to the Post, Sanchez and Mattfeld met in 2017 when they were introduced by friend and former Jets' player Scotty McKnight.
