Ice Spice is back in the spotlight with her new music video for “Baddie Baddie.”
Directed by the New York duo Evil Twins, the visual follows the Bronx-bred rapper as she moves confidently through high-profile dinners and events with model Anok Yai by her side.
The song itself, which samples M.I.A.’s 2012 hit “Bad Girls,” sees Ice name-dropping different fashion designers and reflecting on her rapid rise to fame as she spits, “I was just poppin’ my shit, I didn’t mean to go pop.”
Further into the track Ice raps, “I need me a bag, like, you know that we love a Chanelly / I’m feeling like Destiny’s Child, I need a bae to go get me a Kelly.”
Towards the end of the two-minute visual, a delivery person hands Ice and Yai an empty insulated food bag. At the bottom of the bag is the word “TEA,” a cryptic moment that raises questions but offers no clear answers.
“Baddie Baddie” marks the 25-year-old’s first solo release since Y2K: I’m Just a Girl (Deluxe) dropped last December. Earlier this month, she collaborated with Latto on “Gyatt,” and recently made her film debut in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington and ASAP Rocky.
Last month, Ice Spice said in a cover story with Nylon that she’d ideally want to retire early.
“I mean, my dream is to be retired by 35, but is that even realistic?” she told the magazine. “Probably not. I’m American. We work until we die.”
