Meek Mill is making it clear that he doesn't listen to bubblegum rap, instead he wants some substance to the music he pushes play on.
On Monday (November 24), the Philly rapper took to X to share his opinion on today's rap and what it is he needs in order to listen to it.
"That bubble gum rap shit not gone work when that organic shit hit them streets!" he wrote. "If your song has no meaning we not listening, fuck that marketing budget lol."
Though he doesn’t name any artists specifically, by "bubble gum rap," Meek likely means catchy, commercially oriented music with pop sensibilities. Which isn't the type of music typically associated with the Dreams and Nightmares spitter.
Meek is no stranger to starting debates on social media. Earlier this month, the 38-year-old asked his fans a slightly outlandish question relating to his love life.
"Some days I want 2 girlfriends walking around my house?" he wrote, before asking his audience: "Am I wrong?"
If you want more proof that Meek lets his stream of consciousness do the talking on X, he also recently asked fans how he could secure firearm licenses in all states to avoid future issues with law enforcement.
"Just thinking about how the cops blitz me for a firearm," Mill wrote earlier this month. "I got firearm license in like 40+ states ... I also be with people that's license to carry in nyc ... somebody help me get my license in all states so I can remove that stuff from even chasing me to mess my life up."
The post seemed to reference a run-in with New York City cops on November 1, when he shared on X that he had been detained outside a local nightclub.
