Young Thug has shut down fans' hope for a collaboration album with The Alchemist because he doesn't know who he is.
After a viral meme suggested that Thug and the legendary producer were secretly working on an "introspective jazz" collaboration album, the Atlanta rapper clarified he wasn't familiar with Uncle Al. The confusion started when stylist Ian Connor posted a text exchange with Thugger on Twitter, where he asked Thug if he'd seen the meme or knew who The Alchemist was. Thug's response: "No who's this?"
Connor replied, "The Alchemist, one of the greatest producers of all time. I'll kall you when my brain comes up with a plan, but this is sumn that needs to be done."
It's unclear whether the conversation continued or if Thug ever Googled the prolific beatmaker behind classic projects with Freddie Gibbs, Earl Sweatshirt, and Boldy James. The viral moment stems from a tweet by Debating Hip-Hop, which imagined an "introspective jazz" collab album between the two artists, a pairing fans quickly turned into a meme across rap Twitter. At ComplexCon, a reporter even asked Alchemist about the rumor.
"I can't confirm or deny anything, bro," he joked. "I need that, too. You can hook it up? Talk to him [points to fan]. If he makes it happen, then it's gon' happen. It's on you now, bro."
Meanwhile, Thug appeared at ComplexCon this year, performing in the middle of a mosh pit with fans. The Alchemist, on the other hand, is fresh off the release of GOLDFISH, his new collaborative project and short film with Hit-Boy.
