A$AP Rocky has become Chanel’s official ambassador.
The fashion house announced Rocky as its new face on Saturday (Nov. 29), citing his “talent, curiosity, and limitless creativity” as making him a perfect fit for the brand.
“Rocky is an incredible artist who puts his heart and soul into every project he’s involved in, in addition to being an incredible human being,” said the brand’s artistic director, Matthieu Blazy, in a statement. “Musician, actor, father, friend...he brings so much to the table and always delivers with kindness. We are thrilled to welcome him to Chanel and I’m thrilled to work together again.”
Rocky released his own statement about the collaboration, specifically focusing on Blazy’s involvement.
“Matthieu’s imagination is pushing fashion forward. His designs feel both sensitive and strong, they’re grounded in reality but at the same time, always invite one to wonder,” said Rocky. “I’m so excited to see him at Chanel.”
Rocky making it official with Chanel comes a month after he filmed a short film for the company in New York City with actress Margaret Qualley. The full video, which features him giving Qualley a ring, comes out on Dec. 2. on the Chanel website.
In addition to his Chanel collab, Rocky seems to be gearing up to release his long-teased album Don’t Be Dumb.
During his Camp Flog Gnaw set earlier this month, Rocky revealed a hoodie with the date Jan. 16 emblazoned on one of the sleeves. While fans speculate that he’s going to drop the album then, others believe he’s trolling since Jan. 16 is known as National Nothing Day.
This ties into the fact that Rocky joked that Don’t Be Dumb is “never dropping” in a conversation with Maurice Kamara’s The People Gallery. After laughing, Rocky joked about how fans would take the news.
“They gon’ kill for that one,” he said.
