Taraji P. Henson will star in the upcoming Netflix film Tis So Sweet, a faith-based drama produced by DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry.
According to Deadline, the project pairs Henson with rapper and actor Joey Bada$$ in the lead roles.
The film is based on the true story of Lenore Lindsey, a bakery owner from Chicago whose life changed after a discovery that went viral in November 2024. The story follows her journey of confronting the past, reclaiming time, and finding new purpose.
Tasha Smith, who worked with Henson on Empire and has directed episodes of BMF, Mayor of Kingstown, and Bel-Air, will direct the film. The script is written by Randy Brown (Miracles from Heaven). Franklin and Perry will produce, with Tony Strickland, Angi Bones, and Bart Lipton serving as executive producers.
The project is the second film released under the Netflix partnership between Franklin and Perry, following Ruth & Boaz, which debuted in September and quickly reached No. 2 on the streamer’s Global Top 10 Movies List.
Henson’s role in Tis So Sweet continues her growing collaboration with Netflix and Tyler Perry. She recently starred in Perry’s thriller Straw and is set to appear opposite him in Why Did I Get Married Again?, a follow-up to the 2007 comedy.
Outside of her work with Netflix, Henson also signed a multi-year first-look deal with Fox Entertainment Studios for her production company, TPH Entertainment.
A Golden Globe winner, Henson has been nominated for an Academy Award, multiple Emmys, and numerous other honors throughout her career. She is widely recognized for her role as Cookie Lyon in Fox’s Empire and has appeared in acclaimed films including Hidden Figures, Hustle & Flow, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Her co-star, Joey Bada$$—credited as Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott—has built a parallel career in music and acting. His previous screen credits include Mr. Robot, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Grown-ish.
With a creative team that reunites Henson and Smith, alongside the production backing of Perry and Franklin, Tis So Sweet adds another high-profile title to Henson’s expanding slate of film projects.
