Pete Davidson believes that Walton Goggins' rise in popularity will be a gift and a curse for The White Lotus actor.
On the Sept. 23 episode of podcast This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von, Davidson said that entertainment fans "can't wait" to criticize celebrities that were once their favorites. Around the 1:00:00 mark of the episode below, Von brought up Pedro Pascal as an example, calling him a "hardworking, great actor."
"He’s worked so hard and has been a struggling actor. Fucking blows up so fucking hard," he continued. "Everyone’s like, 'Daddy, daddy! Yeah, daddy, daddy.' Then a year later, he’s in everything now because he’s hot and big and everyone’s like, 'Go the fuck away, dude.'"
After acknowledging that celebrities need to "adjust" to a higher level of fame, Davidson predicted fans of Goggins would turn on him next.
After reading a Hollywood Reporter story about Davidson's remarks, Goggins reacted in an Instagram post on Sunday (Sept. 28) and thanked the actor-comedian for the "heads up."
"We agree on one thing…. Pedro Pascal isn’t a good man, He’s a great man. A dear friend of mine," Goggins continued. "As a 53 yr old I’m acutely aware that every experience has a shelf life. I appreciate so many of you going on this journey with me."
The actor assumed that his fans are "tired" of hearing his "homilies" just as he is "tired of saying them," although he has upcoming projects that he'll soon have to promote.
Goggins went on to encourage fans not to "click on" stories with his name in the headline but shared that he does "appreciate the support" nonetheless.
"See to me, being included in this headline isn’t a curse it’s a blessing. I’ve had the good fortune of engaging in so many interesting conversations with so many of you…of collaborating with so many top-shelf people across so many disciplines over the last couple of years. Way more than a poor kid from GA would ever have the audacity to imagine," he continued.
On Davidson's prediction, Goggins concluded: "If this headline is a possibility or an inevitability…if this is my fate…. Well…. Fuck it. I’m going to enjoy the FUCK OUT OF IT."
Earlier this year, Goggins was at the center of controversy after an alleged falling out with his White Lotus co-star Aimee Lou Wood when fans noticed the two were no longer following each other on Instagram. Goggins denied the claim, and expressed to Variety that whether or not the two followed each other on social media was "irrelevant."
