Boots Riley is bringing I Love Boosters, his film since 2018’s excellent Sorry to Bother You, to theaters next May.

For those familiar with his past work, including as the lead vocalist of The Coup and 2023’s I’m a Virgo series, word of another feature-length film from Riley is great news indeed.

Below, we break down what’s known about the film so far, including its just-revealed release date. Keep reading for more.

When is I Love Boosters being released?

Per NEON, we can expect to see I Love Boosters in theaters on May 22, 2026. Exact showtimes and locations should be revealed in the coming months.

In an Instagram update shared shortly after the release date and first-look announcement, Riley confirmed the theatrical rollout would be “worldwide,” with NEON handling domestic distribution and Focus/Universal taking the reins internationally.

Who stars in I Love Boosters?

The confirmed cast for I Love Boosters includes Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, Lakeith Stanfield, Will Poulter, and Demi Moore.

What’s I Love Boosters about?

This will be a crazy one,” Riley, who wrote and directed the new film, said when directing fans to a Deadline report on the project in October 2024.

Notably, I Love Boosters shares a title with a 2006 track from Riley’s The Coup. While plot details remain relatively scarce, last year’s Deadline report said the film would focus on a group of boosters “who take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven,” putting its story in line with the themes of that aforementioned Coup song.

In the filmmaker’s own words, I Love Boosters “sits right in between the Boots Riley genre and some other shit that I don’t know.”
