A Thanksgiving invitation at Russell Wilson’s home unexpectedly turned into a podcast debate — and eventually a public clapback — after former Seahawks backup quarterback Trevone Boykin described the gathering as “weird.”

And according to Hollywood Unlocked, once the comments circulated online, Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe didn’t hesitate to weigh in.

Boykin, who spent part of the 2016 season backing up Wilson in Seattle, recently recalled being invited to Wilson’s home for Thanksgiving during a podcast appearance.

According to Boykin, the dinner included Wilson, his wife Ciara, their children, Baby Future, a private chef, and several dogs. What stood out to him wasn’t the hospitality, but who wasn’t there.

“I come from a traditional, country-a** Black family,” Boykin said. “If I got as much money as Russell Wilson, my whole family would talk bad about me if I ain’t fly everybody out for Thanksgiving… and I’m sponsored by an airline.”

He added that it struck him as unusual that Wilson’s mother and sisters weren’t present, saying, “It’s still weird to me.”

That framing didn’t sit well with Sharpe. Speaking alongside Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Sharpe mocked Boykin’s decision to critique someone who hosted him for a holiday meal. Without defending or attacking Wilson’s personal choices directly, Sharpe emphasized a simpler point: families don’t all celebrate the same way, and being invited into someone’s home comes with an expectation of discretion.

While Wilson remains one of the most recognizable quarterbacks of his era — with a Super Bowl ring and over a decade as a franchise starter — Trevone Boykin’s NFL career followed a far different trajectory. Undrafted out of TCU in 2016, Boykin appeared in a limited reserve role with Seattle, starting one game while Wilson recovered from injury.

Off-field legal troubles soon overshadowed his football future. In late 2015, Boykin was arrested following a bar fight in San Antonio that resulted in charges including assault on a public servant.

In 2017, he was arrested again in Dallas for marijuana possession and public intoxication after a vehicle incident that injured pedestrians.

The most serious allegations came in 2018, when Boykin was charged with aggravated assault involving his girlfriend, Shabrika Bailey, after he broke her jaw during a domestic dispute.

Those charges ultimately led to a guilty plea for aggravated assault and witness tampering. In 2020, Boykin was sentenced to three years in prison for the crime.
